The Outsiders Inspiration.

The inspiring novel the outsiders has been around class room to class room. It has compelled me to write a short blog about its inspiration to the generation of today.

They grew up on the outside of society. They weren't looking for a fight. They were looking to belong.

Inspiring the Teens of Today's Generation.

Shown in the photo above are the characters Ponyboy Curtis and Johnny Cade of the 1999 film "The Outsiders" based on the novel by S.E Hinton.

To hear reviewers discussing about the novels relationships to gangs I personally don't see it, I see the novel as having an inside and an outside of any to any given social context. At most schools there are the popular kids and the others. To be seen as cool you would have to be popular and if you weren't you're basically invisible. Back to the relationships, in my opinion I see Johnny and Ponyboy as the invisible kids of the group of both at school and within the greasers. The popular kids were obviously the socs, no give in. The kids of today and the book both have in common that all kids are being judged by there clothing and looks, instead of their abilities and desires. Look at Ponyboy for example, hes smart, good looking, kind and just because of his surrounding and his buddies that he hangs out with hes automatically a greaser. Greasers aren't bad people, nor are socs, the labels are given to them because the were they live and the way they look. The nicest person in the world could not be the most cleanliest person but that person could have a heart of gold and how would you know that? The basic thing it comes down to is to never judge a book by its cover.
In all the time I've spent at school, I sincerely would have to say that Rockland Public School is the least judgemental school I've ever been to. To the children of RKPS, they don't judge. I've seen it first hand, it doesn't matter what race or how you look they welcome you with open arms. Although there are FEW students who are judgemental, most of all students are kind-hearted. The students of RKPS stay true to what they believe in and don't take anything from anyone, the "tuffest" school of all, RKPS.
As Johnny would say, stay gold.
